The knowledge of tastes is very important for health. Each taste has different Panchabhautic composition, has its own properties and pharmacological activity on Dosha & Dhatu. The immediate local and intermediate action of a diet article or drug is perceived by the organ of taste through its attributes. Our tongue is capable of recognizing different types of taste. There are six tastes viz. Sweet, Sour, Salty, Pungent, Bitter, and Astringent. The knowledge of tastes could be utilized in a more practical way for the administration of a specific diet in an imbalance of different Doshas. For example, in the case of Obesity, where there is an increased amount of Kapha, one should consume a diet or drugs having a pungent taste as it decreases the amount of Kapha, hence useful in the management of obesity. In this webinar, we will discuss the effect of different tastes on physical and mental health.
