Chakrasana-Urdva Dhanurasana-Wheel Pose


Chakrasana is a part of the Ashtanga Yoga procedures. It is also called Urdva Dhanurasana because when the posture is assumed it looks like a Bow looking upwards. The asana provides great flexibility to our spine.

Steps to do Chakrasana-

• First, lie down on your back with your legs apart and bend your knees.

• Then bring your palms under your shoulders and the fingers should point the shoulders with elbows apart.

• Breathe and lift your shoulders, elbows and hips while pressing your palms and feet firmly into the floor.

• Your spine should make a semi circular arch.

• Push the hips and chest upside as much as possible.

• This position should be held for 20-30 seconds.

• To come back to normal, bend your elbows and knees to bring your shoulder, hips and spine down to the floor.

Cautions for Chakrasana-

• Should be avoided if suffering from a heart problem.

• Avoid it in case of a back injury.

• High BP/Low BP patients should not do it.

• Avoid in hernia or spinal problems.
