Editor’s note

Dear Readers,

Understanding the Ayurvedic holistic approach to healthy living, many allopathic doctors are prescribing Ayurveda medicines and medical representatives’ gets major chunk of their business by allopathic physicians.

Ayurveda and allopathy should be complementary to each other. A proper integrated system of medicine means qualified doctors from both streams work together. If an allopathic doctor thinks that a particular ailment will respond well to Ayurveda, he should refer them to the Ayurveda Physician. This newsletter is based on the recent report published in DNA newspaper.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha – Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Ayurved University

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Director, Chakrapani Ayurveda Clinic and Research Center is now appointed as Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. He completed his under graduation in 1985 and post graduation in 1991 from the esteemed Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar and is the youngest Vice Chancellor.

From Allopathy to Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda, Health is not merely absence of disease but a state of physical, mental, social, spiritual and environmental well-being. While making a choice between the western and eastern system of medicine, the combination should be the right answer. Ayurveda focuses on giving plant and mineral ingredients to the body, still coupled with their natural, organic carriers, so the body can do the extracting and regulating. The human body recognizes them as whole foods and thereby extracts only what it needs.

Today, the western approach is geared for advances in the treatment of acute illnesses which of course is life saving but when it comes to chronic illnesses the western approach does not have much to offer. The western model has been framed on the concept of understanding the mechanism of disease while the eastern model is based on the philosophy of understanding the origin of the disease.

Root Cause

You keep on plucking the leaves of a tree and this tree will never end...because growth seems on its leaves and branches but the reason for this growth is only one- the Roots.

Ayurveda understands the root cause first and then applies the same understanding to root out the disease from the body, this is the reason Ayurveda achieves the complete wellness and a state of cure and back to normalcy very easily. Ayurveda considers the detoxification as a primary part of the treatments and considers that until unless the disease causing factors are available in the body, diseases will keep on popping up again and again.

As modern sciences believe in suppressing the signs and symptoms, these never appreciate to remove the disease causing factors from the body. In allopathy, they believe to hide the garbage under good skin. While dealing with addiction the western model, for example will ask the patient to quit smoking. On the other hand, the eastern approach deals with the origin of addiction at the mind level and motivate the circumstances by which the patient himself will give up the addiction.

Ayurvedic– A holistic Approach

Ayurvedic uses body type as the basis for governing the internal healing. The concept of Vata, Pitta and Kapha help in deciding the proper lifestyle for any individual. Balancing the three doshas help in regressing and controlling the disease. The same is done by the use of proper diet, massage, elimination therapies, aromatherapy etc.

Allopaths take body in pieces- totally objective and incomplete. A physician of heart seems helpless to handle ulcers. Ayurveda is a holistic approach and it takes body as a whole. Ayurveda talks about complete wellness- physical, psychological, spiritual, economical and as well social wellness. For Ayurveda wellness is a complete package, not a scattered issue.

Ayurveda has its own principles and Ayurveda do follow these principles. Evidence is defined in a peculiar way by Ayurveda. When Ayurveda follows the nature it directly means that it is following some natural wisdom and a universal truth, which need not to be launch and withdraw. This is the reason Ayurvedic Scholars have emphasized on the thought that Ayurveda has no end and no beginning. Ayurveda is all about how to live- life. So diet and lifestyle are main concerns of Ayurveda. Medicines are not that important as important is diet and lifestyle according to Ayurveda and this is being followed completely by Ayurveda.

Ayurveda Vs Allopathy

Every science and scientific system has its pros and cons, but generally we are kept unaware about the bad effect of certain systems and these systems are always projected as the best, which is not even near the truth.

Many ayurvedic drugs have been found far superior to their allopathic counterparts. Modern medicine many times overlooks the fact that when two patients with similar ailment are given same medicines, it need not have the same effect on both of them, because each disease is a psychosomatic malady which needs individualistic treatment. Natural Modern day medical sciences understand the value of being natural, but these have no natural aid for the body. They believe in chemicals and synthetic things alone.Ayurveda is completely natural and it believes that to follow the nature is the only way to achieve the complete wellness.

Allopathic system, though faster, has lots of side effect and disease is not completely eliminated. It is only used to treat the symptoms not the cause. There are many cases where disease comes back after some duration of time. Ayurveda is slow process but it cures the cause and symptoms ultimately are eliminated.

Allopathy doctors prescribe Ayurveda medicines

Modern medicine's way of working of prescribing certain specific medicines, for a specific disease is now somewhat changing. The modern scientists and physicians are now realizing that what works for one, may not work for other. Studies are being done now, to make medicines more individual specific, something which, Ayurveda has been doing since hundreds of years.

Opt to consult an Ayurveda Physician before you take Ayurveda medicines – definitely he knows better

Ayurveda works on the principles of body types i.e. every human being is made of different combinations of elements. Hence for the same disease, different people are given different medicines. The future of medicine is heading towards, what already has been discovered in ancient medicine system of Ayurveda. Life goes a full circle.  Ayurveda treatments are customized according to individual health issues and body constitutions which are decided after pulse diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, etc. So think to consult an Ayurveda Practitioner before taking any Ayurveda medicine suggested by your Allopathy Physician.
